Scots women ease aside Georgia

Scotland midfielder Leanne Ross
Ross scored with a long-range drive to secure Scotland's three points

Scotland kept up the pressure on Group Three leaders Denmark with a workmanlike 3-1 win away to Georgia in their World Cup qualifier.

Lela Chichinadze gave Georgia, who sit bottom of the table, a surprise lead after 21 minutes in Tbilisi.

But Jennifer Beattie slammed in the equaliser in first-half stoppage time.

A Rachel Corsie header and a superb 40-yard drive from Leanne Ross - her first Scotland goal - made sure of a third straight win for their side.

Scotland sit second in the table, a point behind the Danes but having played a game less.

I was very pleased for Leanne Ross getting the final goal. It was her first Scotland goal and it was absolutely brilliant

Scotland coach Anna Signeul

Anna Signeul's side next face Bulgaria - who sit fourth on four points, two points behind Greece - at Falkirk Stadium on Thursday, with midfielder Suzanne Grant an injury doubt with a thigh strain.

And Signeul, whose side beat Georgia by the same score at home in October, told the Scottish Football Association website: "We created so many chances. There were about 15 clear-cut chances that we should have taken.

"Our passing in the final third and balls into the box were very good, but it was finishing that caused us problems.

"We should have been in the lead by the time Georgia scored, but it was crucial that we scored before half time. It made it much easier for us in the second half.

"We had to be patient and we were confident that the goals would come. But the pitch was uneven and unpredictable and made it hard to play good football, so we couldn't relax.

"I was very pleased for Leanne Ross getting the final goal. It was her first Scotland goal and it was absolutely brilliant."
