Everton reach Women's Cup final

By Tony Leighton

Women's football

Natasha Dowie and Fara Williams were on target as Everton beat Southern Division Barnet 2-0 in the FA Women's Cup semi-final.

Everton will meet either Arsenal or Chelsea, whose semi-final is set for Sunday, 4 April, in the final on 3 May.

In the Women's Premier League, Chelsea collected a 4-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers to move up to third place.

Leaders Sunderland lost 2-1 at Doncaster Belles and the visitors also had Steph Bannon sent off.

The Southern Division leaders gave Everton a hard time in the first half and almost took the lead when a Cheryl Williams shot hit the bar.

But two minutes after the interval striker Dowie took advantage of a defensive mix-up to shoot the Toffees in front.

And four minutes from time a spectacular overhead kick by captain Williams clinched the Premier League team's place in the final.

The Belles edged to victory in a close-fought encounter with two goals in the final 15 minutes by midfielder Rachel Williams.

Bannon pulled a goal back in the second minute of stoppage time but then saw red for lunging at Chelsea Weston as she tried to retrieve the ball from the net.

Claire Rafferty gave Chelsea a 41st-minute lead, but it was cancelled out seconds from half-time by a Sophie Perry own goal.

Rebecca Jane put the home side back in front eight minutes after the break, however, and two Dunia Susi goals in three minutes completed a comfortable victory.
