Glasgow City edge closer to title

Sue Lappin scores Glasgow City's second against Celtic
Lappin scores the winner for City against title rivals Celtic

Glasgow City beat Celtic 2-1 on Sunday to move closer to clinching their third Premier League title in a row.

Gemma Faye kept Celtic in the match with a string of first-half saves, then Christie Murray was sent off for a high challenge on City's Emma Fernon.

Yet the Hoops took the lead when Suzanne Grant headed home a Rebecca Dempster cross at the back post.

Leanne Ross fired low into the net to level the score before Sue Lappin headed the winner with 20 minutes left.

City now top the league with maximum points from nine matches, while Celtic have 25 points from 10 games.

With the league moving to a summer football schedule, this season's campaign sees each of the 12 teams playing only 11 matches.

Therefore, City need just one more victory to win the title.
