Glasgow beat Hibs to retain cup

Glasgow City
Glasgow City retained the Scottish Premier League Cup

Glasgow City defended the Women's Scottish Premier League Cup with a 3-1 final victory against Hibernian.

Katharina Lindner, Suzanne Malone and Suzanne Lappin fired the holders into a comfortable half-time lead.

Rhonda Jones headed home a late consolation goal for Hibs in what was to be the last of the action at Recreation Park, Alloa.

"We need to keep building on this and push ourselves as best we can," said City manager Peter Caulfield.

Glasgow City won a domestic clean-sweep last season and are strong favourites to repeat that feat, having clinched the first of three trophies on offer.

"We were comfortable winners and played particularly well in the first half and brought in a good lead at half time," added Caulfield.

"We should have added to it, given our number of chances and it was disappointing to lose concentration in the final seconds to concede, but the score does not matter in finals, it is the result that counts and I am delighted we have retained the cup.

"The girls have been playing really well now for a good couple of years."

In Sunday's Premier League action, Hamilton won 2-1 at Dundee United, Inverness triumphed 3-2 at Aberdeen and Spartans reclaimed third spot with a 2-0 victory at home to Forfar Farmington.
