Greece 0-1 Scotland

Scotland coach Anna Signeul
Signeul's side dominated the first half in Athens

Scotland got their World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start with a nerve-jangling 1-0 victory over Greece thanks to a Jennifer Beattie strike.

The Greeks struck the post with the last kick of the game at Akratitos Stadium, Athens, after the Scots had Jo Love sent off with 11 minutes left.

Scotland dominated the first half and Beattie's close-range effort squirmed under keeper Aikaterini Falida.

Both sides missed chances after that 55th-minute opener.

Greece piled on the pressure after Love was shown a second yellow card.

However, it was Scotland who emerged victorious to inflict a second defeat on their hosts, who had opened with a defeat by Denmark.

The Scots host Georgia at Tynecastle on Thursday.
