Glasgow City have won the league, cup and league cup this season

Glasgow City have completed a domestic treble after retaining the Scottish Women's Premier League title following a 2-0 win over Hibernian.

City had trailed Celtic and Spartans for much of the season, but they defeated the Edinburgh side at the weekend as Celtic also slipped up.

That meant City were two points ahead of Spartans with a game remaining.

And Ruesha Littlejohn and Sue Lappin scored the goals that made sure of victory over fourth-top Hibs.

Glasgow, who this season became the first Scottish side to reach the last 16 of the Uefa Cup, had earlier won the Scottish Cup and the Scottish Football League Cup.

Meanwhile, their reserves also won the Second Division West and South West title, winning all their matches.

City captain Laura Montgomery, whose side will enter the Uefa Women's Champions League draw on 24 June, said: "It topped off an outstanding season.

"City go down in history as Scotland's most successful women's side."

Manager Peter Caulfield was proud he was of his team after a nervy last game in Broxburn against Hibs.

"The players have been outstanding," he said. "This was a real pressure match as trebles are not meant to be easy, but the girls really deserved it.

"They have done what no other team before them has ever managed. They have worked so hard and should enjoy their moment."

City had on Sunday recorded a significant 4-2 win at home to Spartans, while Celtic suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat away to Kilmarnock.

That meant that the Glasgow side leapfrogged their Edinburgh rivals, with Celtic a further point behind Spartans.

Hibs remained clear in fourth place after their 2-1 win away to Rovers.

Forfar Farmington leapfrogged Dundee United into fifth after a 3-1 win away to the Tayside outfit.

Aberdeen also moved ahead of United into sixth after winning 2-1 at Hamilton.

Kilmarnock remain eighth despite beating Celtic.
