Feyenoord win Dutch battle

Feyenoord 1-1 PSV (2-2 on aggregate) Feyenoord win 5-4 on penalties

Feyenoord won a dramatic penalty shoot-out to beat PSV Eindhoven in Rotterdam.

Former Nottingham Forest striker Pierre van Hooijdonk was the hero for the home side, scoring an equaliser in the last minute of normal time and then striking the winning penalty in the shoot-out.

Both sides scored all of their spot-kicks until Feyenoord keeper Edwin Zoetebier saved from PSV's Georgi Gakhokidze.

Van Hooijdonk had taken the game into extra-time by heading in a cross from Brett Emerton in the second minute of injury time.

Van Hooijdonk had also scored his team's goal in the first leg last week.

Mark van Bommel, a target of some of Europe's wealthiest clubs, had put PSV into the lead in the 76th minute with a superb right-foot shot.

Up until then, chances at the De Kuip Stadium had been scarce.

But PSV could have extended their lead after Van Bommel's strike, had Mateja Kezman, Adil Ramzi and Gakhokidze shown more composure in front of goal.

Van Bommel showed his darker side in extra-time. He was sent off his second bookable offence after fouling Bonaventure Kalou.

Kalou and Leonardo Vitor Santiago wasted chances for Feyenoord to make their extra-man tell but came through on spot-kicks.
