York City have completed the signing of Blackburn Rovers' Michael Potts.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who was out of contract at Ewood Park, has signed a two-year deal at Bootham Crescent.

The former Manchester United youngster was part of Rovers' first-team squad for the second-half of last season but did not make an appearance.

He told BBC Radio York: "I got a phone call asking me to come down. As I got here it just felt right. The chairman and manager have been great with me."

He added: "I just want to play football. I don't want to be sitting in reserves. I need to be playing with adults in competitive games.

"I know it will be very difficult, any league would be the same. It's a football match at the end of the day and we need to win. But I'm sure I'll do well."

I want him to smile and enjoy his football and he'll do that at York

York City boss, Gary Mills

Potts, who spent a decade at Old Trafford after progressing through their academy before moving to Blackburn, is manager Gary Mills' sixth signing of the summer.

Mills said: "He's a good player. He's 19, he's come out of the Premier League, he's hungry to get back there, he wants to help me get York City promoted.

"I want to show him what a good player he can be, get him to his absolute maximum of the player he should be, and can be, because that's my job.

"I want him to smile and enjoy his football and he'll do that at York."
