York City sign Duane Courtney and Greg Young

York City

York City have signed defenders Duane Courtney and Greg Young for the forthcoming season.

Courtney, 25, has moved to Bootham Crescent from Kidderminster and Young, 27, was at Altrincham.

Manager Martin Foyle told BBC Radio York: "Duane's exciting. He's got the energy to get forward and hopefully he'll be a good addition to the squad.

"Greg is a big danger from set-plays but most importantly he's a left footer and that give us balance."

Right-back Courtney has was an apprentice at Birmingham City before moving to Telford and then Burnley in the Championship.

A spell with Welsh club TNS followed before he joined Kidderminster.

Courtney said: "I think success brings me here. They've done well in the play-offs and I want to do well next season and progress in my football career.

"I've had a taste of playing in the Championship and I want a taste of playing in it again and I think with the way Martin wants the team to play and what he wants out of the club, that's what I want and that's what brought me here."

Centre-half Young started his career at Sheffield Wednesday as a trainee and went on to sign for Grimsby who were then in the Championship.

He moved on from there to Halifax before joining Altrincham.

He said: "I think York offered me something that matched my ambitions.

"I've been at Altrincham the last two years and they've been a fantastic club, a very well-run club, and I enjoyed it there but they're not a team that are going to charge up the table like York are.

"I've come here to get promoted and the manager wants to get promoted next year. I want to be part of a team that can get promotion."

Meanwhile, midfielder Levi Mackin has also signed a new deal to keep him at York for another year and talks are still ongoing with Djoumin Sangare.
