York City ready for play-off final - Alex Lawless

York City's Alex Lawless believes their experiences of big games this season will serve the team well in Sunday's Blue Square Premier play-off final.

The midfielder is confident that York will cope with the pressure in the game against Oxford United at Wembley.

He told BBC Radio York: "We've had a few big games this season and we're all aware how big the two Luton games were.

"So if we approach this game in the same way as that one, that's probably the way to do it."

Lawless admitted the result is the main focus rather than the fact that the game is at Wembley.

However he said the thought of playing at the national stadium did provide more of an incentive.

"It's a nice thought. If you need that little bit more extra motivation, then there it is.

The lads have been great defending when we're in front so if that is the case that will suit us

"But I think everyone is fully aware that we've played 46 games now to try and get up into the League so I think everyone realises that the main thing is to go there and win regardless of anything else."

A record crowd for the Blue Square Premier play-off final is being predicted and early indications suggest Oxford United fans will outnumber York City supporters by around three to one.

Lawless said: "The more that's there the better because the atmosphere is going to be better for everyone then.

"I think sometimes that might work against Oxford then and if we do manage to get on top in the game then I'm sure their fans will get a little bit agitated because of the occasion.

"I feel our team is pretty good in those situations as well. The lads have been great defending when we're in front so if that is the case that will suit us."
