Minstermen complete double swoop

York City

York City have signed former Wrexham team-mates Christian Smith and Simon Brown until the end of the season.

Midfielder Smith, 21, has signed a short-term deal following his release by Wrexham and striker Brown, 25, has joined on loan from the Dragons.

They could face Lewes in the Blue Square Premier on Saturday after receiving international clearance from the Football Association of Wales.

Both players are cup-tied for the FA Trophy and the Setanta Shield.

Smith, 21, started his career at Port Vale and has had loan spells at Cambridge United and Northwich Victoria.

After being released by Wrexham he was expected to sign for Macclesfield but City boss Martin Foyle persuaded him to join City for the rest of the campaign.

Brown made over 100 appearances for Mansfield Town between 2004 and 2008 but he was released following their relegation from the Football League last season.

After joining Wrexham, he had a spell on loan at Rushden & Diamonds earlier this season.
