Ex-Wales midfielder Mickey Thomas spent two spells at Wrexham

Former player Mickey Thomas believes that Wrexham need a solid foundation if the club is to succeed in the future.

Businesswoman Stephanie Booth revealed on Saturday that current owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts have asked her to put the club and ground into a community-based ownership.

And ex-Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Thomas says Booth could be the right choice to lead Wrexham.

"Off-the-field problems have controlled this football club," said Thomas.

"They've been very unhealthy for many a year and hopefully now we've got closure on this.

"I feel sorry for Geoff Moss as I think he's taken unfair criticism.

"He's put money in the club but people wanted to see him get out and get a new owner in. Hopefully Stephanie Booth is the right one.

"You have to have a financial structure for the football club and you have to do it right.

"All we want now is a solid foundation for Wrexham Football Club to move forward.

"The only way they are going to do that is get the off-the-field problems sorted out."

Former Wales star Thomas, who spent two spells at the Racecourse, is confident that manager Dean Saunders is the right man to lead the Dragons back into the Football League.

Wrexham maintained their promotion push on Saturday with a 2-1 home win against Forest Green Rovers.

"On the field, Dean Saunders is building up a very good team here for the future," added Thomas.

"I think he's a very good manager and I think he's got the knowhow and the knowledge to go further with Wrexham.

"The only problem is if he's successful, then other people are interested in him."
