Terry Darracott has quit as Wrexham assistant manager due to his long-standing hip problem.
The 59-year-old has been Dean Saunders' right-hand-man since the former Wales international striker took over at the Blue Square Premier side last October.
"Because of a hip problem I've got I just felt I couldn't do the job," Darracott told the Wrexham website.
Former Racecourse boss Brian Carey will step up from his role as first team coach to become Saunders' number two.
Former Everton and Wrexham left-back Darracott will return to his old role as European scout for Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.
"I've had both my knees replaced during my career and for the first time in my life it's time I take a step aside and look after myself a bit more," said Darracott.
"So I'm going to get it sorted and go back to what I was doing before, working as a scout at Bolton.
"I feel that's going to be more manageable for me than being out on the training field with the players."
Saunders said he was "disappointed" to lose the services of "a great man and a good friend."
