Battling Wrexham please Saunders

Wrexham manager Dean Saunders said his players had proved something to him after a gritty 0-0 draw at Stevenage.

Stevenage are second in the Blue Square Premier table and unbeaten at home.

"I don't think anybody will be as physical as that team... they win headers all over the pitch and we defended really well," Saunders said.

"I said to them 'at least I know now we've got a team who can go and battle anywhere' and... we could have nicked it at the end."

Wrexham - in 16th place in the table - were under pressure for most of the match but finished strongly.

Adrian Cieslewicz had a shot saved and then striker Marc Williams had two efforts blocked in injury time.

"We haven't scored enough goals," Saunders admitted. "Again tonight Marc's had a couple of great chances there and they were flying in last season.

"The harder he tries, they harder it gets for him but they'll go in."

Wrexham can now put their league campaign aside for the moment as they face Halifax Town away on Saturday in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.
