Curtis Obeng has played for England at under-19 level
Wrexham have signed England youth international Curtis Obeng following his release from Manchester City.
The 20-year-old right-back had been on trial at Premier League side Wigan Athletic this summer before signing a two-year deal at the Racecourse.
Obeng made his Wrexham debut in their 3-1 pre-season friendly defeat by Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
"I did fear he might be offered a a deal by one of the bigger boys," said Wrexham boss Dean Saunders.
Obeng, a graduate of the renowned Manchester City youth academy, has followed Poland youth international Adrian Cieslewicz from Mark Hughes' big-spending club to the Blue Square Premier club this summer.
He also joins fellow summer signings French midfielder Hedi Taboubi and defender Mansour Assoumani at Wrexham.
Obeng told Wrexham's official website: "Wrexham is a big club even though it is low down the divisions at the moment.
"Manchester City is a good club but I'd rather be playing first-team football and this is a brilliant place to come and start your career.
"There were a few other clubs interested in getting me down for training but there was no solid commitment like Dean told me. So when the manager wants you at a club, it makes you feel welcome.
"Deano really made up my mind for me and I'm glad I came."
Highly-rated Obeng was also being tracked by Premier League giants Chelsea and Scottish giants Celtic as well as Roberto Martinez's Wigan where he played in a pre-season friendly against Crewe last month.
So Saunders was delighted and relieved, he signed for Wrexham
"In the end our waiting game has paid off," said Saunders. "I feel he will be a big signing for this club."
