Wrexham are hoping to sign Stoke City striker Martin Paterson on loan.
Paterson, 19, has been on loan at League Two side Grimsby since November and faced Wrexham in Tuesday's 2-1 home victory.
He has scored six goals for The Mariners in 15 appearances, and scored once for Championship side Stoke before moving on loan.
Wrexham are looking for another option up front after Cherno Samba returned to Plymouth after his loan spell ended.
Striker Samba played 88 minutes in his total of three games for the Dragons, all of which ended in defeat.
"He came in and helped us when we were short of strikers, and I hope he benefited from his stay here," said Wrexham manager Brian Carey.
Wrexham hoping to extend the stay of midfielder Robbie Garrett from Stoke, whose loan period runs out after Wednesday's visit to Newport County in the FAW Premier Cup quarter-finals.
