Wolves to keep Michael Mancienne on loan from Chelsea

Chelsea utility player Michael Mancienne will remain on loan at Wolves for the remainder of the season.

The Blues had the option of recalling the 23-year-old, who is in his third loan spell with Wolves, during January.

But that deadline has passed and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy confirmed: "He's not been recalled and he's ours until the end of the season. That's good news.

"But it will be even better when he's fit. He's undergoing rehab and will be out for a total of six weeks."

That means Mancienne, who injured his knee in Wolves 3-0 defeat at Blackburn on 4 December, should be close to a return.

"He's having [treatment] back at Chelsea and our physio is in contact with their physio," McCarthy added.

The England Under-21 player, who has only made six appearances for Chelsea, initially joined Wolves on loan in October 2008 and made 10 appearances as the club won promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, McCarthy says he will not be selling 26-year-old midfielder Dave Jones, who is out of contract in the summer, during the January transfer window.

"If I sell Dave, I'll probably have to get someone else in which is counterproductive, to lose a good player and be looking for another one," said McCarthy.

"I've no desire to cash in on him whatsoever and maybe it is in Dave's interest to let his contract run out. He is in a stronger position then."

Jones is yet to sign a new deal at Molineux which means he can leave on a free transfer in May.
