Wolves Kevin Foley adjusts to midfield role

Wolves defender-turned-midfielder Kevin Foley says he has had to adjust his training routine as he grows used to his new position.

The Republic of Ireland full-back now has to join in shooting practice with head coach Terry Connor.

"I have been doing a bit of finishing with 'TC' and a few of the lads," Foley, 25, told BBC WM.

"I've really enjoyed it, so it'd just be nice to take that into a game and score a goal or two."

Inevitably a few chances fell to the former Luton player during last weekend's 2-2 draw at Hull, and he is frustrated that he could not put them away.

If you're playing that far up the pitch you've got to contribute to some sort of goals or assists

"I was disappointed not to score against Hull, I had opportunities, but if you don't shoot you don't score," he noted.

"If you're playing that far up the pitch you've got to contribute to some sort of goals or assists."

Foley is not only adjusting to a change of position, but also a switch in formation, with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy opting for a 4-5-1 system over recent weeks.

"We feel like, bar the Crystal Palace game, we seem to be getting more players joining Kevin Doyle up front," he suggested.

"It allows Michael Mancienne to sit, and allows Karl Henry to push forward a bit more - there's a lot of gaps players are finding because Doyle works his socks off.

"If you want anyone up there to hold the ball up it's him. He's done really well for us this season."
