Surgery sidelines Wolves' Jones

David Jones
Jones has not been a first-team regular this season

Wolves midfielder David Jones faces up to two months out after undergoing surgery on his knee.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury in the 1-0 Carling Cup loss to his former club Manchester United.

He was not fit for last weekend's defeat by Sunderland and a scan revealed the full extent of the damage.

"He felt it against United and thought it was just swelling. He tried to train for the Sunderland game but it wasn't right," said manager Mick McCarthy.

Jones, a former England U21 player who came up through the youth ranks at Manchester United, joined Wolves from Derby in June 2008 for £1m.

He made 37 appearances as they won the Championship last season, but this season he has made just one Premier League appearance, as a substitute against Wigan, and two Carling Cup appearances, against Swindon and Manchester United.
