Premier League newcomers Wolves have signed Nenad Milijas from Red Star Belgrade for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old Serbian international midfielder has signed a four-year deal, subject to a work permit.

Milijas won the league and Serbian Cup twice each with Red Star and was their top scorer last season with 16 goals.

"Nenad is a star player and an international of note in a talented Serbian team," Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the club's website.

"He scored 16 goals from 30-odd games for Red Star Belgrade last season from central midfield and is also a physical presence who can play in a variety of different positions as well as being left-footed which gives the team more balance.

"He's got plenty of experience but also at 26 is in the prime of his career.

"This is a big signing for us and we are absolutely delighted with it."

A number of European clubs, including Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, Panathinaikos, Roma and CSKA Moscow had been interested in £2.5m-rated Milijas.

"Several other clubs were interested and we've seen documentary evidence to show that," added Moxey.

"We spoke to Red Star and agreed a fee which will remain undisclosed.

"Manager Mick McCarthy has seen him two or three times, Terry Connor has seen him two or three times and our scouts in Serbia have watched him a lot and spoken to him on several occasions.

"He's always been very positive about joining Wolves which is a great sign."
