Carl Ikeme came off with a gashed knee in the win at Sheffield United
Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract.
Ikeme, 22, has agreed a deal lasting until the summer of 2012, a two-year extension to his previous contract.
Ikeme became a regular starter for the first time earlier this season until suffering a gashed knee during the away win at Sheffield United.
"We are delighted that Carl has committed his future to the club for the next three-and-a-half years," said Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey.
Wayne Hennessey has reclaimed his place as Wolves' first-choice keeper over the last four games following Ikeme's injury at Bramall Lane.
Although Ikeme was fit to return to the Wolves squad for Saturday's win against Barnsley, he was left on the bench. But with the luckless Matt Murray having been ruled out for the season with a new knee injury, Wolves see Ikeme as a big part of their future.
"Carl is another of the large group of players who have come through our Academy system and gone on to make an excellent impact at first-team level," said Moxey.
"He may have only enjoyed his first regular run in the team this season, but he's now made 11 appearances and impressed with all his performances.
"With Wayne and Carl, and Matt, when he returns, we feel we have three top-quality goalkeepers at the club who will keep us very well served in that department."
