Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray has begun his long road back to fitness after undergoing two knee operations.

Murray returned to the club's training ground in Compton on Thursday to finalise his rehabilitation schedule and is aiming to return for pre-season.

"It was great to come in and see the boys," said the former England Under-21 keeper. "As soon as I came in the banter started. I've really missed it.

"I'm still a long way off being ready. The plan is to be fit for pre-season."

The 26-year-old has not played this season due to this latest in a long line of injuries, a knee ligament problem that required two lots of surgery.

"They had to put some screws in my knee to hold things in place after the initial op," said Murray. "But one of them was irritating the joint so they took it out. But that left a hole and fluid started to leak from it.

"They had to take a bone graft from my hip and use it to plug the hole. I was in thigh-length plaster for the first six weeks, so sleep and mobility were difficult.

"But I'm in a brace now so I can get a decent night's kip and that makes it easier."
