Gazza glad to be back
Paul Gascoigne
Paul Gascoigne was thrilled to make a competitive return to action by completing a full 90 minutes for Wolves reserves on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old midfielder showed glimpses of his old flair during the 3-1 defeat by Sunderland and now wants a final chance to prove himself.

"It was tough but enjoyable, now I need more games to get my fitness up," said the former England midfielder.

"I just needed to put a shift in and come away pleased with my efforts."

Wolves boss Dave Jones gave Gascoigne a lifeline to revive his career in England by allowing him to train with his squad.

Jones has not ruled out offering the midfielder a deal at Molineux but Gascoigne knows he cannot afford to rush his comeback.

It's great to play with the youngsters and helping improve their game - that's what I want to do in the future

"I'm not under any pressure but if Dave asked me to sign a contract here I would," Gascoigne added.

"I've got this game behind me and I hope there's more to come.

"You have to give the man credit for having the bottle to take me on.

"I never thought I would be able to have one more crack at it.

"It would be great if something comes of this, but if not there is always the option of Dubai."

Gascoigne has not played English football after an unproductive four-month spell at Burnley ended last year.

After leaving Turf Moor the former Newcastle and Tottenham player was linked with a move to a host of British clubs including Gillingham, Queen of the South and Exeter as well as deals in America and New Zealand.

In January this year Gascoigne signed for struggling Chinese second division side Gansu Tianma.

But that relationship ended bitterly and Fifa are now examining whether Gascoigne is in breach of his contract with the club.
