Woking to give club back to fans

Woking have announced a plan to give the club back to the fans by making shares available in a restructuring process over the next two months.

Current owner Chris Ingram will relinquish his shares, with a new board voted for by the shareholders.

Outgoing chairman David Taylor told BBC Surrey: "We wanted to move away from the benefactor model and widen the club's shareholding.

"The lasting legacy of Chris Ingram will be that the club carries on."

Guildford City Football Club chairman Shahid Azeem has become a new director, subject to the FA allowing him to be involved with two clubs.

He said: "It's not for me to decide who is to be the new chairman. The board will vote once it's elected.

"Yes, I've worked hard to get where I am, there is value to that money and it's not there to be thrown away. But its not about the money, it's about infrastructure."

Current major shareholder Peter Jordan, who has also helped bankroll the club in the past, said the new plan was the brainchild of the fans.

"We went to Chris and said we think the club should come back to the fans and it was the only way forward. The way it was structured before was hindering people putting money into the club," he said.

"Anybody who wants to invest is welcome. I reckon that if we can find five individuals who want to put in £20,000 then that's £100,000.

"I do it as a hobby. I don't drink, I don't smoke, this is how I spend my money. There are lots of people out there who want to put money into the club."
