Taylor to stand down as chairman

Taylor 'can't wait' to get back on the terraces

Woking chairman David Taylor has confirmed he will stand down as soon as the club's long-term future is clarified at the end of the season.

Taylor who announced the decision on Monday, said it was always his intention to resign after sacking former head coach Kim Grant.

He told BBC Surrey: "It was always my intention at some stage to stand down once the Kim decision happened.

"I'll stay on until something firm is place for this club."

Taylor says the options he has given outgoing major shareholder Chris Ingram do not include him as chairman.

"There are three reasons for my decision," he said.

"One is that I made a mistake, I have to pay for that mistake and I have paid for that mistake every moment of every day for the whole of the season if anyone is in any doubt about that.

"Secondly I can sit and complain or I can actually get up and do something and I am now making sure the future of this club is a lot brighter than it has been for the last 12 years.

"I've been involved overseas and in this country speaking to potential purchasers and other shareholders.

"The third reason is I do have to have some sanity back. I cannot wait to be either just a director or just going back on the terraces."

With Woking just outside the Blue Square Premier relegation places, Taylor confirmed he will remain in place at least until the end of the 2008/09 campaign.

He said: "I am still chairman and I'll be chairman until the end of the season when hopefully we'll still be in the Blue Square Premier."
