Dons sign Newcastle hitman
![]() Robinson is congratulated after scoring a goal
Newcastle United striker Paul Robinson has moved to relegated Wimbledon in a £1.5m deal.
Dons boss Terry Burton confirmed Robinson has become the third signing in as many days for the Division One outfit. Wimbledon are aiming to bounce straight back into the Premiership after being relegated at the end of last season following a 14-year stint in the top flight. They have also signed defender Mark Williams from Watford and Irish left back Des Byrne from St Patricks Athletic.
Robinson, 21, played 11 times for Newcastle last season. Manchester City and Charlton Athletic were among other teams chasing his signature. Burton told the Wimbledon official website: "Paul came to Newcastle from Darlington and played 11 times last season alongside Shearer and Ferguson and will be a good buy for us. "It is a big wrench for a young man to move from the North East. Sacrifice "Paul is from a very close-knit family and still lived with his parents. "We explained to him that coming down here was a sacrifice he had to make and to take the next step. "He's hungry which is an asset we want from our players. "He's quick and direct and gets behind defences and we are very excited he has joined us."
