Newly-promoted Milton Keynes Dons have let five of their first-team squad go following promotion to League One.

Gareth Edds, Matt Carbon, Sam Collins, Kieran Murphy and Drewe Broughton will not be offered extensions once their existing contracts expire on 30 June.

Chairman Pete Winkelman said: "I'd like to thank all of the players, especially Gareth Edds after four years of service and some unforgettable moments."

Edds played just one more game after undergoing ankle surgery in November.

They have contributed a great deal to what has been an historic season for the club Pete Winkelman

The 27-year-old Australian defender, who found his feet in Milton Keynes after spells at Nottingham Forest, Swindon Town and Bradford City, is the most long-serving of the five players let go.

Striker Broughton, 29, signed from Chester last summer, and finished the season on loan at relegated Wrexham.

Former West Bromwich Albion centre-half Matt Carbon, 32, arrived in mid-season, while young defenders Kieran Murphy, 20, and Sam Collins, 18, both came through the ranks.

Murphy spent most of the season at Blue Square Premier side Crawley, while Collins had two loan spells in non-league at Kettering and Hendon.

"Sam and Kieran are two talented young players developed in the Club's Academy," said Winkelman. "I have every confidence that they will continue their careers in the professional game. And I wish them all the very best of luck with their future careers.

"And, while Drewe and Matt have only been with us for a year, their respective efforts both on and off the pitch have contributed a great deal to what has been an historic season for the club."
