Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Kilmarnock striker Conor Sammon for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old, who has hit 18 goals in 27 games for Killie this season, turned down a move to Championship side Scunthorpe earlier in the window.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez said: "We have been looking at Conor for a while.

"He's developed in an incredible manner in the last six months. We're fortunate to be able to move for him before he's achieved his full potential."

Sammon, who moved to Kilmarnock in the summer of 2008 from League of Ireland side Derry City, hit 25 goals in 76 appearances at Rugby Park.

The former Ireland Under-21 international said: "It was a big decision to leave a club that has been so good for my career but I'm a Wigan Athletic player now.

"I want to prove to everyone here they've made the right choice and prove myself in the Premier League."

The striker signed too late to be available for Tuesday night's game at West Bromwich Albion.

But he will now hope to be involved in Saturday's home game against Blackburn Rovers.
