Wigan have completed the signing of Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 23-year-old sealed a 4.5m move from Mexican club Necaxa having been granted a work permit two weeks ago.

Rodallega has won 21 caps for Colombia and scored 15 goals in 36 games for Necaxa this season.

"To play in the Premier League is a dream come true. I want to show (Wigan manager) Steve Bruce and the fans they have made a good choice," he said.

Wigan are currently in seventh place in the Premier League, pushing for a European spot.

"If he is like any of the other South and Central American imports we have brought to the club then we have netted another gem," Bruce added.

"I believe this lad can be a big success, he is quick and strong, with an eye for goal and I am convinced he can adapt to the pace and physicality of the English Premier League."

Rodallega's arrival softens the blow of Emile Heskey's departure to Aston Villa earlier this month.

Heskey joined Villa in a 4m deal on 23 January, while Wigan have also signed Middlesbrough striker Mido on loan until the end of the season, Marlon King moving in the opposite direction.
