Robinson 'keen on Wigan switch'
Wigan are confident of landing West Brom defender Paul Robinson
Wigan believe Baggies defender Robinson is keen to join them
Wigan boss Chris Hutchings is confident West Brom left-back Paul Robinson wants to join the Latics.

Robinson, 28, is believed to have undergone a medical at Wigan on Monday, with a view to a 1.5m move.

Hutchings told the Manchester Evening News: "He has shown a hunger for this club and is keen to come on board.

"He is a very good player, a tenacious full-back, with plenty of experience, and left-back is the only position we haven't got cover for."

Hutchings insists that Robinson is being signed to compete with Leighton Baines for the left-back berth, although the Latics are fighting off interest from Everton for their England Under-21 defender.

Wigan accepted a 6m bid from Sunderland for Baines but have turned down a bid from Everton of 4m, plus a 2m-rated player.

Hutchings added: "we need another left-back as we've been playing Kevin Kilbane there as a stop-gap."
