Wigan boss Paul Jewell is has not heard from former Barcelona midfielder Joseph Guardiola since offering him a deal.
Guardiola won the European Cup with Barcelona
The 34-year-old is a free agent after spending a year in Qatar and held talks with Wigan last week.
"I thought it was going to happen, he sounded very keen," said Jewell."But for some reason it's gone quiet.
"I think agents have become involved somewhere along the line, as tends to happen, and now the ball is in his court. I'm not going to chase it."
Jewell added: "I've more important things on my mind."
"We've made him an offer, and if he wants to take it, then great. If he doesn't, then I am not going to drive myself mad about it.
"I would like to bring him in because he would be a great signing for us with his quality and experience."
Last month Guardiola turned down a six-month contract from Manchester City in the hope of being offered a longer deal by another club.
Guardiola played for Barcelona between 1990 and 2001, helping the Catalan club win the European Cup in 1992.
He then moved to Italy where had two spells with Brescia as well as playing for Roma.
In 2003 he joined United Arab Emirates club Al Ahli.
