Crewe defender David Wright has signed for Wigan for an undisclosed fee.

Wright, 24, has agreed a three-year deal and will link up with Wigan on Thursday to start pre-season training.

Born in Warrington, Wright came through the youth ranks at Gresty Road and went on to make 213 league appearances for Crewe since his debut in 1997.

Wright is Paul Jewell's third signing during the close season, having already snapped up Torquay striker David Graham and Bolton midfielder Per Frandsen.

The fee for Wright is to be in the region of 250,000.
