Jewell banks on promotion
Wigan boss Paul Jewell expects to be out of a job if he fails to get the club promoted to Division One this season.

Jewell took over at the JJB Stadium in June 2001 and his side are currently 12 points clear at the top of Division Two.

"I'm out of contract in the summer and to be perfectly honest wouldn't expect another crack at getting promoted to Division One," he said.

"I had last season to try and put things right so I can't complain that I haven't been given time to do the job that I want to."

"Last season was difficult and I probably tried to change too many things too quickly and made a few mistakes.

"I just felt that certain things needed doing and that everyone had to realise that promotion wasn't inevitable."

Jewell signed Jimmy Bullard last week and has not ruled out more additions - if they are good enough.

"We are always looking to improve what we have here - be they loan or permanent - before the end of the season," he added on Wigan's official website.

"However, we won't make signings just because we have a little money to spend and make signings for signings sake.

"Everyone we've brought in has added something new to the squad."
