Wigan target Ormerod
Blackpool goalscorer Brett Ormerod is being chased by a host of clubs
Ormerod's rich vein of form has impressed Jewell
Wigan manager Paul Jewell has confirmed that Blackpool goalscorer Brett Ormerod is the man he wants to fire the Latics up the Second Division table.

Ormerod is the division's leading scorer with 18 goals to his name this season, prompting a big-money bid from Jewell.

"We have made a bid for a player and it's no secret now that it is Brett Ormerod," Jewell told the club's website.

"Blackpool have already let that out. We are still waiting to hear from Blackpool to see if the bid has been accepted."

Wigan were reported to have offered 1.5m for the 25-year-old striker, who scored a hat-trick against them in the Worthington Cup.

Blackpool have confirmed receiving a written bid, but chairman Karl Oyston told his club's website: "We don't have to sell Brett and we don't need to sell him.

"It's testament to the club's achievements and how the team are playing that other clubs are looking at players at this club."

Wigan are one of four clubs to have made an approach for Ormerod, with Southampton having already had a 1m bid rejected.
