Curbishley targets must-win games
West Ham manager Alan Curbishley
Curbishley's side lost against Aston Villa on Saturday
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley has labelled the upcoming games against Premiership relegation rivals Watford and Charlton as must-win matches.

The third-from bottom Hammers have collected just three points from the last 27 and are five points off safety.

"We have to beat Watford and I think we have got to beat Charlton in the game after that," said Curbishley.

"They could be defining games for us now. We've not put enough three-pointers on the board."

West Ham lost at Aston Villa on Saturday, while Charlton were beaten by Chelsea and Bolton defeated Watford.

The Hornets are bottom of the table on 15 points, while Charlton have drawn level on 20 points with West Ham in recent weeks and are only behind their rivals on goal difference.

The game with the Addicks will have extra spice as it is Curbishley's former club - while Alan Pardew is now in charge at The Valley after having been sacked by West Ham earlier in the campaign.

Wigan are fourth-from-bottom and beat Portsmouth on Saturday to give themselves some breathing space from the relegation zone.

"Some results went for us at the weekend and some did not but we need to win matches ourselves," added Curbishley.

"The opportunities were there for example, against Fulham and Newcastle, but we haven't managed it. We have to start next week.

"Throughout the season, if you have been in the bottom three, it is very difficult.

"But there are enough games left to win some points - and a three-pointer will left everyone."
