West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson has told boss Alan Curbishley he will be given time and money to turn things around at the Premiership strugglers.

Curbishley has replaced the sacked Alan Pardew, who was also initially given Magnusson's backing.

"I hope he will stay for a long time and I am sure he will be a success," Magnusson told BBC Five Live Sport.

"I will be very patient because I know the Premiership is difficult and it takes time to build a strong side."

Magnusson has high hopes for the future at Upton Park but this season would be satisfied with achieving the feat of staying in the Premiership.

The club are third from bottom in the top flight and face the daunting task of playing Manchester United at home in Curbishley's first game in charge on Sunday.

"It's very tough and it's obvious what we have to do this season - and that is to stay in the Premiership - and I fully believe Alan Curbishley is the right man for that job," added Magnusson.

Magnusson insisted that he is prepared to fund any players who Curbishley wants to bring in during the January transfer window but was reluctant to provide any figures about how much money he would make available.

"Alan has to tell me what players he wants and who he needs to accomplish what we are out for this season and that is to stay in the Premiership," he said.

"Within reason he will get the money he needs. I'm not saying any figures but he will get the money he needs."
