Mears completes West Ham switch
Tyrone Mears
Mears overcame injury to become Preston's first-choice right-back
West Ham have completed the signing of Preston right-back Tyrone Mears for an initial fee of 1m.

The fee for the former Manchester City trainee could rise to 1.9m, depending on appearances and possible future England recognition.

Mears made one appearance for City before joining Preston in July 2002 but missed the 2005 play-off final against West Ham because of injury.

North End say they rejected two bids from Charlton for the 23-year-old.

  • Coach Julian Darby, goalkeeping coach Pete Williams, assistant head of youth Glyn Salmon and physio Andrew Balderston have all left Preston.
