Mears overcame injury to become Preston's first-choice right-back

West Ham have completed the signing of Preston right-back Tyrone Mears for an initial fee of £1m.
The fee for the former Manchester City trainee could rise to £1.9m, depending on appearances and possible future England recognition.
Mears made one appearance for City before joining Preston in July 2002 but missed the 2005 play-off final against West Ham because of injury.
North End say they rejected two bids from Charlton for the 23-year-old.
Coach Julian Darby, goalkeeping coach Pete Williams, assistant head of youth Glyn Salmon and physio Andrew Balderston have all left Preston.
