Keen back with Hammers
Kevin Keen during his first spell with the Hammers
Keen is returning to the club where he began his career
Experienced midfielder Kevin Keen has left Macclesfield Town to return to West Ham in a coaching capacity.

The 35-year-old has been appointed under-17 academy coach at Upton Park, where he began his playing career in the mid-1980s.

We all wish him every success and would like to thank him for everything he has done for Macclesfield

Keen started over 200 games for the Hammers before moving to Wolves, Stoke City and then Macclesfield in September 2000, where he combined playing and coaching duties.

He made more than 70 appearances for the Silkmen, including an FA Cup outing against West Ham last season.

Keen has more than 600 career appearances to his name and enjoyed a spell in charge of Macclesfield prior to the appointment of David Moss as manager in November.

He was also wanted by Conference side Nuneaton Borough and had been offered the chance to play on at Macclesfield next season.

But he will now launch a coaching career with West Ham and the club were pleased to see the return of the former Hammer.

"We feel we've got the best man for the job," said West Ham's Academy Director Tony Carr on the club's website.

"He's young, enthusiastic, has gained his A Licence in coaching, having worked with both youth and senior players at Macclesfield, and of course he is steeped in West Ham United.

"Having progressed through our youth system himself, he knows what it takes for a youngster to make the grade here, which is very important."

Moss was keen to keep the experienced midfielder at the club, having been impressed with his contribution on the coaching side.

But Macclesfield director Mike Rance told the club's website: "We're very pleased for Kevin and we're delighted that he has found himself such a good position.

"We all wish him every success in the future and would like to thank him for everything he has done for Macclesfield Town."
