Hammers swoop for Zamperini
Harry Redknapp:
Harry Redknapp: "Another bargain from abroad"
West Ham have snapped up 18-year-old centre-half Alessandro Zamperini from Italian club AS Roma on a free transfer.

Zamperini impressed Harry Redknapp in a behind-closed-doors friendly and the Hammers boss moved quickly to add him to the Upton Park ranks.

They don't sign their contracts in Italy until they are 19 so for a free it is not a gamble at all

The club are now just waiting for international clearance before he can officially become part of the squad.

"He looks a decent prospect," Redknapp told the club website.

"He has been on the Roma bench five or six times and they are top of the league.

"He's a tall lad with a good left foot and has every possibility of being a good player. He also has a great physique, a good build, and is good in the air.

"They don't sign their contracts in Italy until they are 19 or whatever so for a free it is not a gamble at all."

Zamperini has not performed in Serie A for Roma, but the youngster - who was earlier on Lazio's books - has played for them in friendlies.
