Hammers double swoop
Sebastien Schemmel
Sebastien Schemmel is on his way to Upton Park
West Ham manager Harry Redknapp could be set to boost his ranks with a 2.5 move for Bulgarian Svetoslav Todorov - and has signed controversial Metz defender Sebatien Schemmel on loan.

Todorov has been training with the Hammers this week and has impressed Redknapp, who is now weighing up a 2.5m swoop for the Lovech striker.

Claims that Todorov has already signed a three-and-a-half-year deal are premature, but sources at Upton Park suggest Redknapp is likely to try and sign the player.

West Ham have also taken controversial Metz defender Sebastien Schemmel on a six-month loan - after he was branded "phenomenally unstable" by the French club.

Schemmel, 25, had been dropped from the Metz team and fined by the club after an incident in December when he insulted two journalists, who later lodged a formal complaint with police.

Metz president Carlo Molinari has complained about Schemmel's character, saying he was "phenomenally unstable."

Schemmel's move follows a three-day trial at West Ham, a Metz spokesman revealed.

"Metz had been looking for massive money for him a while back, something like 4m, but we wouldn't be looking to pay that. We'll just see what happens," said Redknapp.

" Our coach Glenn Roeder saw Metz a couple of times before we played then in the InterToto Cup final last year and said then that he thought he (Schemmel) was outstanding, one of the best attacking right backs he'd seen for a long time."
