The Swede did not play in the 6-0 defeat on the opening day of the season at Chelsea but had since featured in every Premier League fixture for Di Matteo's side before he suffered his injury.
Striker Peter Odemwingie could return for Sunday's match against Manchester City, but James Morrison remains a doubt with a knee injury sustained in training.
Nigeria international Odemwingie has not played since the 1-1 draw against Bolton on 2 October, but Di Matteo added: "Peter has joined in with us so we will have to see how he reacts.
"With James Morrison, it's touch and go with his knee, but, if it's not Sunday, then hopefully he will be available for the next game. It's assessment on a daily basis with him."
