West Brom have signed England Under-21 left-back Joe Mattock from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old, who handed in a transfer request last week, has signed a three-year deal at The Hawthorns with an option for a fourth year.

"I heard about West Brom wanting me a couple of weeks ago when I was with England Under-19s," he told BBC WM.

"I was ecstatic that a club like this was interested in me - I am ready for a new challenge."

Mattock made his Foxes debut at the age of 16 and has already made 73 appearances, scoring once.

"It isn't an easy decision - obviously I grew up in Leicester and all I wanted to do when I was a lad was play for Leicester," he said.

Mattock now hopes to emulate one of his former Leicester team-mates, the Wolves defender Richard Stearman, by helping his new team back into the Premier League.

"I'm really good friends with Richard Stearman - he's done really, really well and had a really good season last year," he noted.

"Hopefully I can do that as well, and get this club back into the Premier."

The full-back goes straight into the Baggies squad for Tuesday night's Carling Cup tie at Bury, and is likely to start in the absence of Marek Cech through international duty.
