West Brom will show their backing for England's 2018 World Cup bid by wearing "England 2018" logos on their shirts for Saturday's game with Newcastle.

The match marks the start of the new Championship season and is being shown live on BBC One and online.

"It would be a dream come true for every fan in this country if we earned the right to stage the World Cup," said West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace.

"This is a great opportunity for us, as a club, to play our part."

West Brom play without a sponsors' name on their shirts.

The club said several fans had contacted them to ask if the blank space could be used to promote the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, following the recent death of the former Baggies player.

But they had already agreed to wear the 2018 logo and so will find another way of paying tribute to Sir Bobby, who also managed Saturday's opponents Newcastle, and guided England to the World Cup semi-final in 1990.
