Carson wants lengthy Baggies stay

Carson wants to reestablish himself in Fabio Capello's England squad

England keeper Scott Carson wants to end his time as a footballing "nomad" after clinching his move to West Brom.

The 22-year-old, who has signed a four-year deal at The Hawthorns, has already had spells with five different clubs after first emerging at Leeds in 2004.

"I just want to get settled now. I've been like a nomad for three or four years," said Carson.

"It'll be good to get some roots and hopefully settle. I can see myself here for four or five years, even longer."

Carson moved from Leeds to Liverpool for 750,000 in 2005 with Paul Robinson's presence at Elland Road restricting him to a handful of first-team appearances.

But Carson struggled to establish himself at Anfield, and was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Aston Villa before being sold to the Baggies for 3.25m.

Carson was widely criticised for his error in England's costly Euro 2008 qualifying defeat to Croatia, but he said he has learned to deal with the scrutiny.

"I was always told by people when I was growing up that you have to take the rough with the smooth," he said.

"It was one of those things. That is in the past. I've got to look to the future."

England coach Fabio Capello left Carson out of the final two squads of the season for friendly internationals with the United States and Trinidad & Tobago but the player is hoping a fresh start will enable him to regain his place.

"I think I am good enough to get back in the England squad," he said.

"Hopefully I can settle down and get a bit of consistency and then I will be looking to get back in.

"No-one really said anything and I was left out of the squad at the end of the season but in fairness I didn't have the best couple of games for Villa before the squad was announced.

"That was fair enough. I took it on the chin. It just made me want to get back in the squad."
