West Brom have signed Marseille centre-half Bostjan Cesar on a season-long loan deal - with a view to a permanent transfer.
The 25-year-old Slovenia international, who has won 24 caps, joins fellow countryman Robert Koren at the club.
Boss Tony Mowbray told the club's website: "Bostjan is a left-sided centre-half and a real competitor.
"What I like about him is that he has natural defensive instincts. He's a defender's defender."
Mowbray added: "He's a regular alongside Robert in the Slovenian national team and has played for some substantial clubs."
The Baggies have already signed centre-backs Leon Barnett and Shelton Martis this summer.
Cesar will be eligible for Saturday's friendly with visiting Heerenveen if international clearance is granted in time.
