West Brom defender Thomas Gaardsoe faces up to six months on the sidelines because of a persistent groin injury.
The Danish international has been troubled by the problem all season but was delaying surgery.
Gaardsoe, who has not played since February, said: "I've had a problem on and off for about a year.
"I wanted to avoid having this operation at all costs because it is quite a big operation which I knew would keep me out for a long time."
