Former West Brom midfielder Michael Appleton is set to sue the surgeon he believes finished his career.
Appleton retired two years ago at the age of 27 after failing to recover from a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered in a training-ground accident.
But the one-time Manchester United trainee is now going to take the man who operated on him to court.
In two years Appleton underwent six operations as he battled to recover his fitness and he wants compensation.
The case is expected to be heard early next year but Appleton's legal team are not naming the surgeon they are taking action against.
