Robson criticises Baggies defence
West Brom boss Bryan Robson
West Brom boss Bryan Robson blamed his side's defending for the crushing 4-0 defeat to Birmingham City.

"It was awful defending by us in the first 20 minutes of the game and then you've got no platform to get a foothold in the game," said Robson.

"It makes it difficult for the midfield and the forwards."

The Baggies have let in 36 goals in 18 league games and Robson added: "I'm starting to realise why we have conceded so many goals."

He added: "The chairman has said I can bring a few players in and we need to do that because we are conceding far too many goals.

"Will our position put players off? You can have a case for that. You hope that is not the case but the thing that concerns me is, are we going to be too far adrift by January?"

Robson was the target of some derisory chants from the West Brom fans at St Andrews after failing to guide the Baggies to a win since taking charge.

Some fans chanted "there's only one Gary Megson" and Robson said: "I've had six games and I've been working with what I've been left with.

"It hurt for them to have a go at me. I've always thought the Albion fans are fair-minded and you set things out on the training pitch and work hard but if they can't do basic defending there's not much you can do about that."
