Megson backs Hughes

West Brom manager Gary Megson says he has 'every confidence' in under-fire striker Lee Hughes.

Hughes, who is in his second spell at the club, has yet to score a top-flight goal and was criticised by several team-mates following the club's 1-0 defeat at Everton last weekend.

Megson has been linked with Derby striker Malcolm Christie and watched him in action against Wimbledon on Monday.

Lee is desperate to do well for Albion

But the West Brom boss is convinced that Hughes will come through his lean spell, and has kept him in the squad for Saturday's home match with Middlesbrough.

"I have spoken to Lee Hughes and we both know where we are coming from," said Megson. "There is no problem.

"Lee is desperate to do well for Albion and I am sure that when he is given the opportunity he will grasp it with both hands.

"I have got every confidence in Lee.

"All the talk about what happened in the dressing room after the Everton game is natural.

"When things are not going right, frustration is a lot more evident than when you are at the other end of the table.

"Everything that needs to be said has been said and Hughesie will be in the squad to face Middlesbrough on Saturday."
