West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of Tranmere's Welsh international midfielder Jason Koumas.

The on-off saga has been wrapped up just ahead of the transfer deadline on 31 August with Baggies boss Gary Megson boosting his bottom-of-the-table squad.

The two clubs agreed on a fee after lengthy negotiations on Wednesday, and Koumas sealed personal terms together with completing a routine medical on Thursday.

The Premiership new boys have agreed to make an initial payment of 1.125m followed by a further 1.125 after 12 months, plus 250,000 after 75 appearances.

The 22-year old international has gone straight into the Baggies' squad for the top-flight match against Fulham at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

Megson was clearly delighted at his new acquisition.

"Lots of clubs have had a look at Jason, but no-one has taken a chance on him - until now," he told West Brom's official website.

"This deal has taken a very long time to complete but we're delighted it's gone through.

"Jason has bags of ability, good feet and can play in different positions across midfield.

"He's also got loads of experience for his age - but he has to learn to do more when he hasn't got the ball."
